what are bjds?

bjd stands for ball-jointed doll. they are sometimes called abjds (asian ball-jointed dolls) as the hobby started and became popularized in countries like Japan, South Korea, and China (especially Japan, with companies such as Volks).

what are recasts?

recasts are illegal copies of dolls made by someone who is not the original sculptor/artist, done without permission. if you are new to the hobby and wanting to buy a bjd, make sure you do a lot of research so that you don't accidentally purchase a recast; most bjd spaces do not allow recasts, and they are very looked down upon by most people in the hobby. The reason for this, besides it literally being stealing art, is that this is a very niche hobby and most artists are themselves very niche. Even the "big" companies, such as ringdoll, are a relatively small operation, and recasts take money out of the pockets of artists. if it's not already obvious, I am anti-recast. den of angels has more information on recasts and a list of recast companies to watch out for that is very helpful; I'd recommend giving it a look.

who are you?

my name is aj, a.k.a prophet, aconiteprophet, or moonbloombjd, depending on which social media you're looking at. I got into bjds in 2022 and have amassed quite a collection since then rip my wallet
